Youth Industrial Strategy Competition

Brand, Animation & Digital

We worked with the British Science Association on a brand and set of digital assets for a new nationwide competition. We created a visual brand which speaks to the UK's best young inventors, scientists and engineers and encourages them to undertake STEM projects which could shape our collective future.

The Youth Industrial Strategy Competition is a new, national STEM initiative that aims to inspire & challenge young people aged 11-to-19. Focused around the four Grand Challenges of the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy, the Competition calls on students to come up with innovative solutions that have the potential to change our future industries, society and the environment.

The British Science Association came to us with the brief to inspire and speak to not just the students who would already be involved in self initiated learning but students who may not see themselves as capable or confident enough to put their ideas forward.

To achieve this we concentrated on the speaking to each and every young person directly whether they saw them self as the target audience or not. To do this we accentuated the ‘YOU’ in ‘Youth’ and used non-uniform letterforms to speak of diversity within the logotype.

We took these visual cues and used them throughout the brand, creating a custom typeface with non-uniform ‘Y’s, O’s and U’s. Combined with a strong colourful colour palette and photography treatment we created a visually striking and youthful brand identity.
